Our Vision and Values

Cherry Garden School will provide a welcoming and enabling environment, where our whole school community feel safe and valued.

We will empower all pupils to achieve their individual aspirations, through a culture of risk taking, problem solving and fostering creativity. By providing a child-centred, stimulating and holistic curriculum, pupils will develop self-confidence and resilience for lifelong learning, both within school and in their wider community.

Cherry Garden School recognises the importance of working in collaboration with families by valuing the extremely important role they play in their child’s development. We will engage families in their child’s learning journey, listen to their experiences and empower them to connect with each other.

We will continue our journey to be a space where everyone in the school community is treated with respect, compassion and empathy. We promote positive and professional attitudes where individuality is valued and celebrated.

Our school encourages continuous improvement for all, by promoting the sharing of expertise both within school and with the wider community and welcoming the community in shared experiences.

Our Staff

Our staff are our greatest resource, they are highly trained, able to provide a bespoke curriculum for our pupils and responsive to the needs of individual children. Our classroom staff have training in a wide range of communication systems, such as: Makaton, PECS, alternative communication systems, objects of reference and touch cues. They are also trained to manage pupil medical needs such as gastrostomy feeds and the management of epilepsy and have regular first aid and behaviour management training. Our therapists include Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and we also have skilled dance, music and swimming staff as part of our school team.

Our Governors

The Governors provide a strategic role in moving the school forward. They are involved in the life of the school and act as a ‘critical friend’ in all aspects of the school’s performance. Their vision is to provide excellence in all that we do to achieve the best outcomes for the children. The governing body is a member of the Southwark Governors’ Association, which meets termly at the Southwark Council offices and the National Governors’ Association.

We are always interested to hear from prospective new Governors, and governors can receive free training as part of their induction and, subsequently, on a range of topics through the school’s contract with the Southwark School Governor Support and Development Services.

The Chair of Governors can be contacted via chair@cherrygardenschool.co.uk. Other individual governors can be contacted via the school office.
